Unison members vote to accept Scottish government s 4% pay offer

The union had campaigned for the previous three-year deal to be renegotiated in light of the pandemic. In March, Health Secretary Jeane Freeman offered a wage increase of at least 4 per cent to staff on contracts under the Agenda for Change system. Almost 50,000 Unison members were balloted on the proposal and 35 per cent voted, with 84 per cent accepting it. Union officials say they will now push for the deal to be implemented as soon as possible. Unison head of health Willie Duffy said: “This pay rise represents a fair increase for our members and means the majority of our NHS staff will receive a pay increase of at least 4 per cent, which will be backdated to December.

Compulsory Covid jabs for care workers will hinder take-up, Unison warns

FORCING Covid-19 vaccinations on care staff is the wrong approach, Unison warned today, after a study found that it could hinder the take-up of the jabs. Health and social-care workers who felt under greater pressure from their employers to receive Covid-19 vaccinations were more likely to decline it, according to new research by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). In a survey of nearly 2,000 people, LSHTM asked workers their level of agreement, from strongly disagree to strongly agree, with the statement that they “feel/felt under pressure” from their employers to receive the jab. For each additional point of agreement, survey participants were 75 per cent more likely to have declined vaccination.

Buhari s failing govt can t unite Nigeria – Soyinka NEWS

Prof. Wole Soyinka Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, says he doesn’t believe Nigerian unity is attainable under the current regime of President Muhammadu Buhari due to its systemic failure. Soyinka said this in Abuja on Saturday at the book reading and signing of two of his books titled ‘Trumpism in Academe’ and ‘Chronicles of the Happiest People on Earth’. Former Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State had asked Soyinka if he could write a Nigerian story that would evoke patriotism and inspire unity among the various tribes in the country. Responding, the playwright said no narrative would unite the people of Nigeria without restitution and justice.
